Charles R. Saunders and To Leave a Warrior Behind book launch

Thank you to everyone who came out to support a wonderful launch for To Leave a Warrior Behind in February. We had an amazing afternoon at the Halifax Central Library, starting with a tribute to Africville protester Eddie Carvery, then an introduction to the book, followed by a reading of Charles’s work on Africville.

But let’s be honest: the stars of the show were the first three winners of the WFNS’s Charles R. Saunders Prize for Emerging Writers:Theo Feehan-Peters, Nailah Tataa and Norman Ho. Each spoke about Charles, and read from their own speculative fiction.

For me, one of the loveliest moments came after the launch, in the above photo with my family, my parents, and my sister and her family. Thank you for the unending support!

We hope to make the CRS prize part an annual event at the library, so stay tuned.

Until then, here is some international and national coverage of To Leave a Warrior Behind you can listen to or read this weekend:

You can read an interview I did with Monster Complex here and a review from One Last Sketch here. The reviewer says I WENT ON TANGENTS!!! I WENT ON NO TANGENTS. OK MAYBE A FEW TANGENTS MADE IT THROUGH THE EDITORIAL PROCESS. I APOLOGIZE FOR THOSE.

PS – you’ll notice zero coverage from Atlantic Canadian media so far. If you want to be the journalists who changes that and helps hammer Charles’s name into history, email me at jon@jonattrie.ca.

I can get you access to the book and tell you everything you need to know.

To Charles!
