Did you know Charles had a lifelong love of boxing? It started when he was five and watched amazed as Jersey Joe Walcott knocked out Eddie Izzard in Pittsburgh to shock the world and win the heavyweight crown. He built his warrior Imaro on boxers, and drew the name of his genre, Sword and Soul, from his Nova Scotia boxing book, Sweat and Soul.
To many North American boxing fans, Charles was a legendary writer of the sport. Here, his long-time supports at CardBiz are republishing some of his best-loved features, such as this, the Four Eras of Muhammad Ali.
“Saunders’ brilliant breakdown offers the perfect framework for understanding not just the man, but the historical weight of the vintage cards we chase.”
